A seasonally appropriate story as we enter Thanksgiving - some lucky BC 2016 student will able to be grateful for a night in TD Garden! Proving that random acts of kindness are alive and well on the Boston College campus, this photo was submitted by an RA whose resident kindly donated money anonymously so that one of his floor mates would be able to attend a Celtics game.

Songs for Sandy: A Hurricane Inspired Playlist

  • While the power is still on and your iTunes is still accessible, The Heights editors would like to offer some of our favorite storm-themed song suggestions...
  • Coming Clean : Hilary Duff (for all you former Laguna Beach fans out there...)
  • The Rain Song : Led Zepplin
  • Set Fire to the Rain : Adele (if rain makes you want to cry though, any Adele song is appropriate)
  • Rainy Days and Mondays : The Carpenters
  • Swimming in the Flood : Passion Pit (we're looking at you, Mod residents)
  • Fool in the Rain: Led Zepplin
  • It's Five O'Clock Somewhere : Jimmy Buffet ("Pour me something strong, make it a Hurricane")
  • Hurricane Drunk : Florence and the Machine (definitely heard a few people taking this to heart after last night's class cancellation announcement)
  • When the Levee Breaks : Led Zepplin (here's hoping this one isn't in bad taste...)
  • Hello Hurricane : Switchfoot
  • Banana Pancakes : Jack Johnson (we agree Jack, there ain't no need to go outside and we are happy to pretend like it's the weekend)
  • Make It Rain : Fat Joe
  • Umbrella : Rihanna (although with these gale-force winds it might not be advisable to whip one out)
  • Like a Hurricane : Neil Young ("I want to love you, but I'm getting blown away")
  • Singing in the Rain : Gene Kelly
  • It's Raining Men : The Weather Girls (could be a god or bad dream, depending upon the males)
  • Rock You Like a Hurricane : Scorpions (if you're in an 80s mood)
  • I Can See Clearly Now : Johnny Nash (we're still waiting for this one to be relevant)
  • Or, if you're in the mood for comedy, Bill Cosby's take on Noah is also worth a listen. What are your favorite storm songs?

Aesop’s Boston Launch

Christina Quinn | Heights Editor

The B-Line was lucky enough to be a guest at the opening party for the first Aesop signature store launched outside of New York City. The Newbury Street store’s gorgeous, minimalist design compliments its line of skin, hair, and body care products.

No Comment(s)

Taylor Cavallo | Associate Arts Editor

As an English major, one of the major skills that I have developed and hopefully improved on during my time at BC is my ability to make interesting comments. When I, and my fellow English major, ‘read’ a book, you’ll notice that it’s not simply ‘reading’ as another person might. It’s a process that involves reading, re-reading and marking up the margins, underlining and highlighting, all in hopes of being able to make an interesting insight during class that no one else has thought of, noticed or connected to something mentioned on the page 30 pages before.

These skills that I’ve developed are not limited to books. I seem to have comments about a lot of things – art, music, ideas, situations, even people sometimes (oops). A more important skill to develop parallel to this ‘interesting comment’ skill, is discretion. You need to know when to speak and when to keep your mouth shut. People will seek your opinion when it’s asked.

One place that no one wants to hear someone else’s opinion, especially that of a stranger, is a movie theatre.

There may be people who have more talent than you, but there’s no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do - and I believe that.

Derek Jeter, shortstop for the New York Yankees

Editor’s Note: The B-Line extends its sincere apologies to all the Yankees fans at Boston College who most likely burst into tears on Saturday night after watching Jeter’s ankle fracture. Admittedly, his “ouch” face was a heartbreaker…

Right In The Childhood: From Neopets To iPads

In the words of the Bob Dylan, “the times they are a-changin.’” Ok, maybe he said these words with a greater sense of profundity than I intend … but I couldn’t help myself. When you get a chance to quote Bob Dylan, and therefore appear super deep, you go for it.
